Gilad Hochman (1982) has been called “one of Israel’s
most prominent composers” by Magazine
Deutschland and “a rising star in the classical
music world” by France 24. Today, his works are
regularly commissioned and performed worldwide
by leading musicians, ensembles, choirs, and
orchestras. At 24, he became the youngest person
ever to win Israel’s prestigious Prime Minister’s
Prize. The deciding committee called him “a
fascinating, original and colorful creator.”
Hochman’s music has been played at numerous
venues, including the Berliner Philharmonie,
Carnegie Hall, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Moscow
Tchaikovsky Conservatory, London’s St James’
Church Piccadilly, and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
Sim Shalom (Grant Peace) for cantor and choir
is Hochman’s latest work. It was commissioned
by Park Avenue Synagogue for this album.
The work evokes the past, interweaving
characteristics of ancient music with
traditional, flourished Hazzanut, all laid upon a
contemporary foundation.
lyrics
Grant peace to the world, goodness and blessing,
Grace, love, and compassion
for us and for all the people Israel.
Bless us, our creator, united as one, with Your
presence;
by that light, Adonai our God, You have given us
a guide to life, the love of kindness,
generosity, blessing, compassion, life and peace.
May it please You to bless Your people Israel
at every season and at all times with Your gift
of peace.
Blessed are You, Adonai,
who blessed Your people Israel with Peace.
