יְשִׂימֵךְ אֱלֹהִים כְּשָׂרָה רִבְקָה רָחֵל וְלֵאָה. Y’si·mekh elohim k’sarah, rivkah, rahel v’leah. May God make you like Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah. יְשִׂימְךָ אֱלֹהִים כְּאֶפְרַֽיִם ְוכִמְנַשֶּׁה. Y’simkha elohim k’efraim v’khi-m’nasheh. May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh. יְבָרֶכְךָ יְיָ וְיִשְׁמְרֶךָ. יָאֵר יְיָ פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ וִיחֻנֶּךָּ. יִשָּׂא יְיָ פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ וְיָשֵׂם לְךָ שָׁלוֹם. אוֹר זָרֻעַ לַצַדִּיק וּלְיִשְׁרֵי לֵב שִׂמְחָה. Or zarua la-tzadik u-l’yishrei lev simhah. Light is sown for the righteous and joy for those whose hearts are true.

כָּל נִדְרֵי וֶאֱסָרֵי וַחֲרָמֵי, וְקוֹנָמֵי וְכִנּוּיֵי, וְקִנּוּסֵי וּשְׁבוּעוֹת, דִּנְדַֽרְנָא וּדְאִשְׁתַּבַּֽעְנָא, וּדְאַחֲרִימְנָא וְדַאֲסַֽרְנָא עַל נַפְשָׁתַֽנָא, מִיּוֹם כִּפֻּרִים זֶה עַד יוֹם כִּפֻּרִים הַבָּא עָלֵינוּ לְטוֹבָה, כֻּלְּהוֹן אִחֲרַֽטְנָא בְהוֹן, כֻּלְהוֹן יְהוֹן שְׁרַן, שְׁבִיקִין שְׁב; ִיתִין, בְּטֵלִין וּמְבֻטָּלִין, לָא שָׁרִירִין וְלָא קַיָּמִין. נִדְרַנָא לָא נִדְרֵי, וֶאֱסָרַֽנָא לָא אֱסָרֵי, וּשְׁבוּעָתַֽנָא לָא שְׁבוּעוֹת. Kol Nidrei ve’esarei va-haramei, v’konamei, v’khinuyei v’kinusei, u-sh’vu·ot, dindarna, u-d’ishtabana, u-d’aharimna, v’da-asarna al nafshatana, mi-yom kippurim zeh, ad yom kippurim ha-ba aleinu l’tovah kul’hon iharatna v’hon, kul’hon y’hon sh’ran, sh’vikin sh’vitin, b’teilin u-m’vutalin, la sharirin v’la kayamin. Nidrana la nidrei, ve-esarana la esarei, u-sh’vu·atana la sh’vu·ot. All vows, renunciations, bans, oaths, formulas of obligation, pledges, and promises that we vow or promise to ourselves and to God from this Yom Kippur to the next – may it approach us for good – we hereby retract. May they all be undone, repealed, cancelled, voided, annulled, and regarded as neither valid nor binding. Our vows shall not be considered vows; our renunciations shall not be considered renunciations; and our promises shall not be considered promises. All vows-- all promises and pledges-- that we have made to ourselves and that no longer serve for the good-- may their grip be loosened that we be present of mind and heart to the urgency of the hour.

וַיֹּֽאמֶר יְיָ סָלַֽחְתִּי כִּדְבָרֶךָ. Va-yomer Adonai, salahti ki-dvarekha Adonai replied, “I have forgiven, as you have asked.”

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, שֶׁהֶחֱיָֽנוּ וְקִיְּמָֽנוּ וְהִגִּיעָֽנוּ לַזְּמַן הַזֶּה. Barukh atah Adonai eloheinu melekh ha-olam, she-heheyanu v’kiy’manu v’higi·anu la-z’man ha-zeh. Blessed are you Adonai, our God, ruler of time and space, for granting us life, for sustaining us, and for bringing us to this moment.

♌בָּרְכוּ אֶת יְיָ הַמְבֹרָךְ. ♌בָּרוּךְ יְיָ הַמְבֹרָךְ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד. ♌Bar’khu et Adonai ha-m’vorakh. ♌Barukh Adonai ha-m’vorakh l’olam va·ed. ♌Praise Adonai, the Blessed One. ♌Praise Adonai, the Blessed One, now and forever.

אַהֲבַת עוֹלָם בֵּית יִשְׁרָאֵל עַמְּךָ אָהָֽבְתָּ, תּוֹרָה וּמִצְוֹת, חֻקִּים וּמִשְׁפָּטִים, אוֹתָֽנוּ לִמַֽדְתָּ עַל כֵּן יְיָ אֱלֹהֵינוּ, בְּשָׁכְבֵנוּ וּבְקוּמֵנוּ נָשִׂיחַ בְּחֻקֶּיךָ, וְנִשְׂמַח בְּדִבְרֵי תוֹרָתֶךָ וּבְמִצְוֹתֶיךָ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד. כִּי הֵם חַיֵּינוּ וְאֹֽרֶךְ יָמֵינו, וּבָהֶם נֶהְגֶּה יוֹמָם וָלָֽיְלָה, וְאַהֲבָתְךָ אַל תָּסִיר מִמֶּנּוּ לְעוֹלָמִים. בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ, אוֹהֵב עַמּוֹ יִשְׂרָאֵל: Ahavat olam beit yisrael am’kha ahavta, Torah u-mitzvot hukim u-mishpatim otanu limad’ta al ken Adonai eloheinu, b’shokhveinu uv’kumeinu nasiah b’hukekha v’nismah b’divrei toratekha u-v’mitzvotekha l’olam va·ed. Ki hem hayeinu v’orekh yameinu u-vahem nehegeh yomam va-lailah, V’ahavat’kha al tasir mi-menu l’olamim. Barukh atah Adonai, ohev amo yisrael. You have loved your people, Israel, with infinite love; You taught us Torah and mitzvot, statutes and laws. Therefore, Adonai, our God, as we lie down or rise up, we will think of Your laws and speak of them, rejoicing in Your words of Torah and Your mitzvot forever and ever. For they are our life and the fullness of our days, and on them we will meditate day and night. May You never withdraw Your love from us. Blessed are you, Adonai, who loves the people Israel.
10.
שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל יְיָ אֱלֹהֵינוּ יְיָ אֶחָֽד: בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם כְּבוֹד מַלְכוּתוֹ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד. Sh’ma Yisrael, Adonai eloheinu, Adonai ehad: Barukh shem k’vod malkhuto l’olam va·ed. Hear, O Israel, Adonai is our God, Adonai is one. Praised be the name of the One whom we honor as Ruler forever and ever.

V’ahavta 01:06
וְאָהַבְתָּ אֵת יְיָ אֱלֹהֶיךָ, בְּכָל-לְבָֽבְךָ, וּבְכָל-נַפְשְׁךָ, וּבְכָל-מְאֹדֶךָ. וְהָיוּ הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה, אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוְּךָ הַיּוֹם, עַל-לְבָבֶךָ: וְשִׁנַּנְתָּם לְבָנֶיךָ, וְדִבַּרְתָּ בָּם בְּשִׁבְתְּךָ בְּבֵיתֶךָ, וּבְלֶכְתְּךָ בַדֶּרֶךְ וּֽבְשָׁכְבְּךָ, וּבְקוּמֶךָ. וקְשַׁרְתָּם לְאוֹת עַל-יָדֶךָ, וְהָיוּ לְטֹטָפֹת בֵּין עֵינֶיךָ, וּכְתַבְתָּם עַל מְזֻזוֹת בֵּיתֶךָ וּבִשְׁעָרֶיךָ: V’ahavta eit Adonai elohekha b’khol l’vav’kha u-v’khol nafsh’kha u-v’khol m’odekha. V’hayu ha-d’varim ha-eileh asher anokhi m’tzav’kha ha-yom al l’vavekha. V’shinantam l’vanekha v’dibarta bam b’shivt’kha b’veitekha u-v’lekht’kha va-derekh uv’shokhb’kha u-v’kumekha. U-k’shartam l’ot al yadekha v’hayu l’totafot bein einekha. U-kh’tavtam al m’zuzot beitekha u-vi-sh’arekha. You shall love Adonai your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all that is yours. These words that I command you this day shall be taken to heart. Teach them again and again to your children, and speak of them when you sit in your home, when you walk on your way, when you lie down and when you rise up. Bind them as a sign upon your hand and as a symbol before your eyes. Inscribe them on the doorposts of your home and on your gates.
12.
לְמַעַן תִּזְכְּרוּ וַעֲשִׂיתֶם אֶת-כָּל-מִצְוֹתָי, וִֽהְיִיתֶם קְדֹשִים לֵאלֹֽהֵיכֶם: אֲנִי יְיָ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם, אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתִי אֶתְכֶם מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם, לִהְיוֹת לָכֶם לֵאלֹהִים, אֲנִי יְיָ אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם: אֱמֶת L’ma·an tizk’ru va-asitem et kol mitzvotai, vi-hiyitem k’doshim leiloheikhem. Ani Adonai eloheikhem, asher hotzeiti etkhem mei-eretz mitzrayim, lih’yot lakhem lelohim, ani Adonai eloheikhem. Emet . . . Then you will remember and fulfill all My mitzvot, and be holy before your God. I am Adonai your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God. I am Adonai your God— Truly . . .
13.
מִי־כָמֹֽכָה בָּאֵלִים יְיָ, מִי כָּמֹֽכָה נֶאְדָּר בַּקֹּֽדֶשׁ, נוֹרָא תְהִלֹּת,עֹֽשֵׂה פֶלֶא: מַלְכוּתְךָ רָאוּ בָנֶיךָ,בּוֹקֵעַ יָם לִפְנֵי משֶׁה וּמִרְיַם, זֶה אֵלִי עָנוּ וְאָמְרוּ: יְיָ יִמְלֹךְ לְעוֹלֶָם וָעֶד. וְנֶאֱמַר: כִּי פָדָה יְיָ אֶת יַעֲקֹב, וּגְאָלוֹ מִיַּד חָזָק מִמֶּנּוּ.בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ, גָּאַל יִשְׂרָאֵל: Mi khamokha ba-eilim Adonai, mi kamokha ne·dar ba-kodesh, norah t’hilot, oseih feleh. Malkhut’kha ra·u vanekha, boke·a yam lifnei moshe u-miryam; zeh eili anu v’amru: Adonai yimlokh l’olam va·ed. V’ne·emar: ki fada Adonai et ya·akov, ug’alo miyad hazak mi-menu. Barukh atah Adonai ga·al yisrael. Who is like You, Adonai, among the mighty! Who is like You, dressed in holiness, revered in praise, working wonders! Your children recognized Your sovereignty, as You split the sea before Moses and Miriam. “This is my God,” they responded, and they said: “Adonai will reign forever and ever.” And so it is written: “Adonai has rescued Jacob and redeemed him from the hand of those more powerful than he.” Barukh atah, Adonai, who redeemed the people Israel.
14.
הַשְׁכִּיבֵנוּ יְיָ אֱלֹהֵינוּ לְשָׁלוֹם,וְהַעֲמִידֵנוּ מַלְכֵּנוּ לְחַיִּים וּפְרוֹשׂ עָלֵינוּ סֻכַּת שְׁלוֹמֶךָ, וְתַקְּנֵנוּ בְּעֵצָה טוֹבָה מִלְּפָנֶיךָ, וְהוֹשִׁיעֵנוּ לְמַֽעַן שְׁמֶךָ. . . וּשְׁמוֹר צֵאתֵנוּ וּבוֹאֵנוּ, לְחַיִּים וּלְשָׁלוֹם, מֵעַתָּה וְעַד עוֹלָם. וּפְרֹשׂ עָלֵינוּ סֻכַּת שְׁלוֹמֶךָ. בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ, הַפּוֹרֵשׂ סֻכַּת שָׁלוֹם עָלֵינוּ וְעַל כָּל עַמּוֹ יִשְׂרָאֵל וְעַל יְִרוּשָׂלָֽיִם. Hashkiveinu Adonai eloheinu l’shalom, v’ha·amideinu malkeinu l’hayim, u-fros aleinu sukkat sh’lomekha, v’takneinu b’eitzah tovah mil’fanekha v’hoshi·einu l’ma·an sh’mekha. . . U-sh’mor tzeteinu u-vo·einu l’hayim u-l’shalom mei·atah v’ad olam. Ufros aleinu sukkat sh’lomekha. Barukh atah Adonai, ha-poreis sukkat shalom, aleinu v’al kol amo yisrael, v’al y’rushalayim. Allow us, Adonai, our God, to sleep peacefully; and awaken us to life. Spread over us your canopy of peace, restore us with Your good counsel, and save us for the sake of Your name. . . . Ensure our going and coming for life and peace, now and forever. May you spread over us Your canopy of peace. Barukh atah Adonai, who spreads the canopy of peace over us, and over all the people Israel, and over Jerusalem.
15.
וְשָׁמְרוּ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת הַשַּׁבָּת, לַעֲשׂוֹת אֶת הַשַּׁבָּת לְדֹרֹתָם בְּרִית עוֹלָם: בֵּינִי וּבֵין בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אוֹת הִיא לְעוֹלָם, כִּי שֵׁשֶׁת יָמִים עָשָׂה יְיָ אֶת הַשָּׁמַֽיִם וְאֶת הָאָֽרֶץ, וּבַיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי שָׁבַת וַיִנָּפַשׁ. V’sham’ru v’nei Yisrael et ha-shabbat, la·asot et ha-shabbat l’dorotam b’rit olam. Beini u-vein b’nei yisrael ot hi l’olam, ki sheishet yamim asah Adonai et ha-shamayim v’et ha·aretz u-va-yom ha-sh’vi·i shavat va-yinafash. The people Israel shall observe Shabbat, to keep it as an everlasting covenant throughout all generations. It is a sign between Me and the people Israel for all time, that in six days Adonai made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day, stopped working and rested.
16.
תִּקְעוּ בַחֹֽדֶשׁ שׁוֹפָר, בַּכֶּסֶה לְיוֹם חַגֵּנוּ. כִּי חֹק לְיִשְׂרָאֵל הוּא, מִשְׁפָּט לֵאלֹהֵי יַעֲקֹב. Tik·u va-hodesh shofar ba-keseh l’yom hageinu Ki hok l’yisrael hu, mishpat lelohei ya·akov. Sound the shofar on our feast day, on the new moon, when all we see is a sliver. For it is Israel’s law, a judgment of the God of Jacob. כִּי בַיוֹם הַזֶּה יְכַפֵּר עֲלֵיכֶם לְטַהֵר אֶתְכֶם, מִכֹּל חַטֹּאתֵיכֶם לִפְנֵי יְיָ תִּטְהָֽרוּ. Ki va-yom ha-zeh y’khaper aleikhem l’taheir etkhem mi-kol hatoteikhem lifnei Adonai tit·haru. For on this day, atonement shall be made for you to purify you from all you have done wrong. In the presence of Adonai you shall be pure.
17.
יִתְגַּדַּל וְיִתְקַדַּשׁ שְׁמֵהּ רַבָּא. בְּעָלְמָא דִּי בְרָא כִּרְעוּתֵהּ, וְיַמְלִיךְ מַלְכוּתֵהּ בְּחַיֵּיכוֹן וּבְיוֹמֵיכוֹן וּבְחַיֵּי דְכָל בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל. בַּעֲגָלָא וּבִזְמַן קָרִיב וְאִמְרוּ אָמֵן: יְהֵא שְׁמֵהּ רַבָּא מְבָרַךְ לְעָלַם וּלְעָלְמֵי עָלְמַיָּא: יִתְבָּרַךְ וְיִשְׁתַּבַּח, וְיִתְפָּאַר וְיִתְרוֹמַם וְיִתְנַשֵּׂא וְיִתְהַדָּר וְיִתְעַלֶּה וְיִתְהַלַּל שְׁמֵהּ דְּקֻדְשָׁא, בְּרִיךְ הוּא, לְעֵלָּא לְעֵלָּא מִכָּל־בִּרְכָתָא וְשִׁירָתָא, תֻּשְׁבְּחָתָא וְנֶחָמָתָא, דַּאֲמִירָן בְּעָלְמָא, וְאִמְרוּ אָמֵן: Yitgadal v’yitkadash sh’meih rabba, b’alma di-v’ra kir’uteih, v’yamlikh malkhuteih b’hayeikhon u-v’yomeikhon u-v’hayei d’khol beit yisrael, ba·agala u-viz’man kariv, v’im’ru amen. Y’hei sh’meih rabba m’varakh l’alam ul’almei almaya. Yitbarakh v’yishtabah, v’yitpa·ar v’yitromam v’yitnasei, v’yit·hadar v’yit·aleh v’yit·halal sh’meih d’kud’sha, b’rikh hu, l’eila l’eila mi-kol birkhata v’shirata, tushb’hata v’nehamata da·amiran b’alma, v’im’ru amen. May God’s great name be exalted and hallowed throughout the created world, as is God’s wish. May God’s sovereignty soon be established, in our lifetime and in your days, and in the days of all the House of Israel. And we say: Amen. May God’s great name be acknowledged forever and ever! May the name of the Holy One be acknowledged and celebrated, lauded and worshipped, exalted and honored, extolled and acclaimed—though God, who is blessed, is truly far beyond all acknowledgement and praise, or any expressions of gratitude or consolation ever spoken in the world. And we say: Amen.
18.
מוֹדֶה [מוֹדָה] אֲנִי לְפָנֶיךָ, מֶלֶךְ חַי וְקַיָּם, שֶׁהֶחֱזַֽרְתָּ בִּי נִשְׁמָתִי בְּחֶמְלָה רַבָּה אֱמוּנָתֶךָ. Modeh [Modah] ani l’fanekha melekh ḥai v’kayam she-heḥezarta bi nishmati b’ḥemlah, rabbah emunatekha. I thank You, living and eternal ruler, for Your kindness in restoring my soul. How great is your faith in us.
19.
מַה טֹּֽבוּ אׂהָלֶיךָ יַעֲקׂב, מִשְׁכְּנׂתֶיךָ יִשְרָאֵל. Ma tovu ohalekha ya·akov mishk’notekha yisrael. How lovely are your dwellings, people of Jacob; your sanctuaries, people of Israel!

This Mahַzor for Youth: Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, is designed especially for you to use on your own and to share with adults. We believe in the power and meaning of sharing a prayer book containing the rich, diverse and timeless liturgy of our people. Prayer is a multi-sensory experience. In addition, you can enjoy listening to the accompanying music available for download. The musical selections include contemporary compositions commissioned recently by the PAS Music Center, as well as familiar melodies closely identified with the High Holy Days.
The contemporary writings in this mahַzor are designed to enhance the meaning of the prayers within these pages as well as help you think about the role of these prayers, and prayer in general, in your own lives. Our hope is that as you grow and change throughout the years, you will grow in your appreciation and understanding of the
liturgy, music, art and thoughts expressed within this prayer book. We hope you enjoy praying with this mahַzor as much as we enjoyed preparing it for you! We look forward to many years of meaningful High Holy Days together.
